Parish Community Life

PURPOSE 

The Parish Community Life Committee is the organ of the council through which the parish participates in the ministry of Jesus Christ of building Christian community. The Parish Community Life Committee encompasses all the programs and activities of a parish that strengthens Christian community. The committee fosters a sense of belonging among the members of the parish. Its scope of activity would include all those parish events which foster the community life of the parish. Another purpose of this committee is to strengthen family life within the parish community. 

FUNCTIONS 

1. To provide a welcoming or hospitality committee to help newcomers feel at home. 

2. To establish a parish area or block system devised to encourage parish communications and inter-relations. 

3 .To reach out to former members and to the unchurched in the parish. 

4. To develop programs of evangelization. 

5. To endeavor to involve every parishioner in some active apostolate of the parish. 

6. To conduct a parish census and to maintain an up-to-date parish list. 

7. To be responsible for parish publicity and communications to all parishioners and other parishes. 

8. To plan "special events" such as picnics, dances, pot-luck suppers, etc., which bring the parish together to build community. 

9. To encourage church activities and events that are family centered as opposed to those that separate members of the family. 

10. To support family life through marriage enrichment programs and single parent support groups. 

11. To make available to parishioners programs and resources provided by the Archdiocesan Office of Family Life. 

12. To minister to the single, separated and divorced. 

13. To minister to youth. 

MEMBERSHIP 

Members of this committee should be caring, accepting persons, who can appreciate the diversity of people within the parish community and have a talent for enabling their gifts to be used in ministry in the parish. Those who have participated in renewal experiences designed to build Christian community would be likely prospects for this committee.
